Hello. My 2008 XC70 has 134,000 miles on it. The car is in very good condition and appears to run very well, however, it uses around half a quart of engine oil for each 1,000 - 1,200, or so, miles. Does this seem like normal consumption, or is it too high? I don't see any obvious reason for the oil use, such as any sign of a leak or blue-smoke exhaust. I use synthetic oil now but had noticed this oil use while still using mineral oil, and consumption seems to be the same using either. The car is the 3.2 non-turbo 6-cylinder model.
Thanks for any help.
2008 XC70 Oil use
On my 150000-mile '08 V70 we traced oil use to a leaking brake system vacuum pump. Dealer rebuilt it (Volvo has a kit for that). I never noticed any dripping or blue exhaust, but there was definitely a slow oil leak there. My low oil indicator would come on at about 5,000 miles and it would need a quart.

1 qt every 2500 miles is a bit high but not excessive. It should not be using at all, ideally. Is the oil change interval below 6-7000 miles? The oil rings might be worn or slightly stuck (some top engine cleaner poured inside the cylinder for a couple of hours may help, but it will ruin the O2 sensor).
