98 S70 headlamp washers

Post by 1998s70 »

On my '98 S70 the headlamp wipers work, but not the washers. Do the washers run off of the same pump that feeds the windshield, or is it a separate pump? How do I locate the pump(s) on this car? The Chilton manual is no help. Thank you.

I'm trying to remember as it has been a long time since I fixed the headlight washer system. If I recall correctly (and that is a stretch!) they use the same pump for the headlights and windshield. The pump is fitted in front of the reservoir on the RH side of the engine bay near the front. You can see it more easily if you carefully pull the bottle filler neck forward and out of the upper clip. There are 2 small pipes and one of them runs to the front of the car. There are some connectors with one way valves in them, and they are prone to the diaghrams in them failing, or the nozzles blocking. The jet nozzles are also prone to blockages too. Start from the pump end, follow the pipe to the first connection, separate it and see if water pumps from there and work your way to the jets. I found there was a 'T' connector under the RH headlight that was generally the failure point. Parts are stupid expensive for what they are, so worth checking in breakers yards.

Thanks. I saw those one-way valves and T connectors, so I will check them first.

Have someone activate them and check for a massive leak somewhere. I usually use a metal bread tie stripped of it's plastic to jam down washer nozzles to clear them if plugged.
