Followed your pictorial pretty much exactly and have no leaks (YAHH!) and will hopefully have better starts. The fittings I went with are pretty much exactly as pictured and if I ever have to redo the fuel pump I can replace this contraption with a standard fuel filter easily! Thanks for doing all the hard work of figuring it out.
Update- 24 hours later and several successful starts after sitting for hours/overnight. No more killing the starter! Thanks again for the superb pictorial and step by step. I used a dremel with a cutoff wheel to shorten the inlet port and cut off the barbed end of the outlet. I actually put a thin strip of rag inside it to make sure no metal shavings got into the filter itself.
