97 850 upper torque rod bushing

Post by dairyqueen814 »

Hi guys,
I just got polly bushings for my torque rod and firewall mount. When trying to press the old rubber one out the entire sleeve that I think was welded to the torque rod came off. I can't for the life of me get the old bushing out. I can post pictures to better explain if needed.
I have access to a welder and am just wondering if it's a terrible idea to weld it back on or if I should buy a new assembly. They're pricy so id rather not. Thoughts?

Weld the ring back.
Then put in new bushing, I recommend Lemforder, about $10:

Page 4 shows the tool I made, it was still tricky so on my 850 I used a poly mount.
Slightly more vibration at idle but my wife didn't notice any difference.

I used this part from Pelican Parts. Installed like a charm and looks to be high quality

Alright cool
Thanks guys
while I had the bushing out I decided to do a quick check and had my mother step on the gas and brake while I watched the engine and It was definitely moving more than it should be with no upper mount. When I do the tranny swap in a week or so I think I'd like to replace all the mounts
Is there 3 or 4?
theres one that bolts on to the tranny
one under the t-belt
and one? or two? in the front?

also what brand would you recomend? The Volvo OE ones are like twice the price of some of the others (and I'm guessing for good reason) Is it worth the extra money?

Thanks
Nick

Inspect each one, if there are no tears then all is well. Lemforder / or Corteco is OEM and cheaper than the dealer part. Pelican Parts list who is the OEM supplier

Look at 2 places:
- rmeuropean dot com
- Volvo dealer websites (many dealers sell parts on the web)

Then compare prices between Volvo OEM vs:
- Hutchinson
- Lemforder
- Corteco

The "other brands", search forum and you will know why I only mention the 3 names above.

I'm going back to OEM mounts from poly bushings, I don't want the vibration anymore.

I threw it in our wood stove and burned the rubber out then pushed the rest out with a vice and a big socket set
welded the bushing sleeve back on to the mount and its all good to go
on the drive home i noticed a LOT of vibration and some of my lower mounts were looking pretty rough
I think those are next on the list

Thanks guys
