1998 v 70 awd 256 k check turbo boost ?

Post by jaymorgan1 »

How do you know if the turbo is working - I do not hear or feel any spooling up. Car runs fine, gets 20 mpg average. In a previous post I listed 6 codes it is currently throwing.

Thanks

I have a v70xc 1998, never checked boost yet. My wish list is a installed gauge. Very easy to add a temporary gauge to manifold and run in car. My car has so much power I assume the turbo is working. I don't hear the turbo spool up. I have 200k. The turbo's on volvo's seem reliable. I checked the turbine for play at inlet. I do have oil dripping from turbo. To cold to deal with now. No drips on ground.

Yes, I would connect to Intake manifold (after throttle valve), There is a plastic mini manifold (just after Throttle valve) with ports blanked off with rubber caps.

That mini manifold is sometimes called the vacuum tree, I agree that's a good place to hook up a boost gauge.

Every turbo car should have a boost gauge. They sell ok gauges for as low as $15 on eBay. If you don't have one you really have no idea is the system is functioning properly. You can be under boosting (taking performance away) or over boosting (risking destroying your motor).
