Does anyone know how the DEM works? How do you usually know your DEM is good or not?

Thanks

Also the A.O.C (Active On demand Coupling) Pump is typically referred to the Haldex pump, There is a bunch of info on the forums about them, its not a XC90 specific unit.

Are you sure about the 75W140? I think it might be synthetic 75W90 GL5.

Car came from factory with 75W90, but later Volvo "updated" it to 75W140.
Either fluid is fine.

I'd not worry about it.

I put Redline 75W90 in my transfer case.

Old post but I need to ask the "sleeve" gurus...

2005 XC90 with 90K miles.

Put in Drive..."raoooo" noise for a few sec. Put back in P, no noise.
Put in R, "raoooo" noise for a few sec.

Now it is all quiet.

Questions re Angle Gear Sleeve...
In the early phase of failure, does it make any noise?

Re: Testing AWD system.

I don't have a lift to test it but here you go the ghetto way. It was snowing, so I brought the XC90 on cul-de-sac with a hill (about 3-4 degree slope), it has about 1-2 inches of snow.

I told my 14-year-old son to stay on the sidewalk and watch the REAR wheels while I go up the hill.
I specifically ask him "Do the REAR wheels spin like crazy?".
His answer is "Only the FRONT wheels spin like crazy, not the REAR".

So there you go, my angle gear sleeve (vs AOC) is kaput. Personally, I don't mind FWD (I have driven many many FWD cars in my life) because my vehicle:
- Has snow tires in winter.
- I may save some gas mileage (FWD vs AWD fuel consumption).
- Car is quiet, no grinding sound.

You're going UP a hill when most weight is transferred to REAR wheels and you expect them to spin? The Haldex only pushes 25% of power to the rear wheels MAXIMUM.

Don't really know if this test is providing the answer you think it has.

I would go up the hill in "R" reverse while there is snow on the ground to verify assumption.
