Wiper linkage - 1993 Volvo 240 Topic is solved

I'm pretty sure my the wiper linkage needs replacing - or at least fixing. I'm guessing I have to go through the dashboard to get at it. Is this fix a pain or very time consuming? I'm also guessing there are no easy solutions, but if anyone has something I'd love to hear it!:-)

The driver side wiper reaches out past the windshield and gets stuck on return. The passenger side wiper seems to work ok, but with the driver side wiper out of wack, the two have gotten tangled. The motor works, they operate, but they are mis-timed.

Try removing the wiper arm, cleaning the splines and then reseating the arm on the shaft in the position you like.
It's likely the arm slipped on the shaft and not the wiper linkage.

I'm having a similar issue with my '93 240 wagon's windshield wipers. The driver's side goes WAY beyond the windshield to the left and then when it goes back it is out of sync with the passenger side and they collide and get stuck. I really need to get the this fixed because it's winter in Ohio and this is my snowmobile! I saw that someone suggest removing the wiper arm, cleaning the splines (whatever that is - can someone elaborate?) and put the arm in the correct position, but no one ever responded whether or not that worked. Can someone help?!! If you have suggestions, please put it as simply as possible as I know very little about car repair, but I'm willing to give it a try if I can get clear directions. A video would be even better. Thanks!

You should have a single nut nut on your wiper arm that may be hidden by a trim piece on the arm itself. Once the arm is removed, you should reinstall the wiper arm in the correct orientation. The splines should be the teeth all around the shaft from the wiper motor that the arm slides onto.

It worked! I found some additional help from a YouTube video instructing me to clean the aluminum shavings from the bolt so that there was better contact, but when I put it all back together, the wiper was still slipping. Apparently it had worn away inside the screw part of the wiper arm that when attached, they simply couldn't grab hold of one another. With the help of a bit of white plumbers tape on the bolt for better traction, it's working like a charm. I put extra tape and a wrench in my glove box in case it happens again while I'm on the road and I can pull over and make the fix. Thanks for everything.
