1996 854 boost leak??

Post by waterskierfl »

A while ago I heard a different noise than normal from the turbo as a I let off the throttle it made a fluttering sound instead of the solid pshhh sound. I am also only getting about 5 psi full throttle at about 4.5k, this boost decreases slowly to about 1 or 2 psi until it hits the next gear and then it starts at about 5psi all over again. I have had the IPD TCV with the silicone hoses for about a year now no problems. Any advice where to look for leaks or is this turbo on its last legs. It has roughly 240k on it.

Intercooler hoses or the intercooler itself.

CBV diaphragm may be torn. Remove the hose going to it and hook up a vacuum pump and see if it will hold pressure. I had a similar sounding problem on my 1998 V70. Also check the hose running from the CBV to the manifold and make sure it is connected and in good condition.
