shiloh51933,
Please let us know if the iCarsoft i906 is useful on your 1998 V70XC for anything other than the standard OBDII emission diagnostics (which it should handle just fine).
In other words, please let us know how much of the Vol-FCR functionality it implements for these ECUs: Motronic 4.4, AW 50 42, ABS, COMBI, SRS, ECC, Immobilizer, RTI, VGLA, Power Seats, etc.

First, thanks to Matty Moo for responding to my post in another topic and that's what this site is all about.
Happy ending!
1 expedited Amazon Prime order and $220 later an Autel MaxiDiag Elite 802 made my day. Instead of paying $198 minimum to the dealership and only a receipt to show for it, I have my SRS codes reset and a new inspection sticker on my car.
My lessons learned:
1. I'm not knocking Vida-Dice at all, but for someone like me the technology of a scan tool, even a complex one, is easier to manage than creating a virtual machine on you computer to run Vida-Dice or other software modifications.
2. I'm not saying that this Autel model or even Autel period is the only choice for someone making a scanner choice, even though it saved my bacon this time. Autel advertizes a number of models that are less expensive than this model, but I wasn't sure if they covered my year, make and model. Do your homework, even call tech support at the manufacturer.
3. I know Matthews used to benefit if you linked through Matthews to make a purchase at Amazon, I don't know if this is sill the case. Anyway, if you are buying a scanner and not sure if it will work for your car, buy from someone like Amazon Prime, not the only option, where returns are guaranteed and no hassle if the scanner is not the right fit for your car.
4. And no kidding now I have a tool that can even reset the service light on my 98 V70 or my neighbors Maybach or Bugatti! Come on you gotta laugh a little bit!

Hi Div
Glad you like the 802. I agree, setting up and running a VM can be is a pain. I'm a computer nerd and even I don't enjoy it.
Here's the generic MVS-Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/?tag=matthewsvolvo5-20
Here's the link to the Autel MD802 MaxiDiag Elite Scan Tool. Currently $210.93, Prime-friendly.
Either of those help MVS, and thanks to any past Amazon link users, and thanks to any future users too.
(Just go through those links and put stuff in your cart. When you buy, MVS gets 2-6% of your total. You don't pay a dime more. It's 100% transparent to you.)

I bought this one: $19 off Amazon. Nice big display, generic code description beyond just code number. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007JS ... ge_o00_s00

Google brought me here. Have you had a chance to try this? What's the verdict on the i906 and 96-98 Volvo specific codes? My SRS light came on last week and for the price of having the dealership read the code, I could upgrade my MS310.Matty Moo wrote:I have one of these showing up tomorrow. I'll post up what I find.

I took a chance on a new in box AUTEL 802 at an estate sale for 50 USD. I had to break the factory seal to try it out and it booted up with lots of software choices for my fleet - BMW VW Volvo
First pass, it cleared an intermittant SRS sensor code on my Beetle convertible in 3minutes. Im already ahead. Now I just have to sell my AUTEL 500 for more than 50 bucks...and its a good day.

I was getting anxious about an upcoming inspection and with my SRS light on I impulsively bought the icarsoft i906 not realizing there might be a cheaper option for a scanner. Is the Auttel a better choice? I have been gradually trying to get myself together an attempt with Vol-Fcr and a Mac running a Virtual PC but haven't quite got that together yet. Anyway the thing worked great -- cleared my SRS light which hasn't returned. I think the mechanic might overlook the ABS since he doesn't like them anyway. Now I am dealing with 312 314 and the big 343 ABS codes. Seems like cleaning sensors and checking wires and connections at the wheels isn't too hard for a beginner.

plumsmooth,
1. Thanks for positive feedback that iCarsoft i906 *does* indeed clear SRS DTCs for your '97 850 wagon.
2. Were you able to clear *any* of the ABS DTCs with the iCarsoft i906 -- even temporarily?
3. Is the iCarsoft i906 capable of clearing DTCs for COMBI (Instrument Cluster), AW 50-42 (automatic transmission), or Power Seats?
