Ever since I have had my Volvo, I have had intermittent starting problems. At first I thought it was the immobilizer or other things but I became convinced that it was the neutral safety switch.
So today I pulled mine and to my surprise, I had a Toyota part installed #84540. Well it has been working for over a year and for the most part was a nuisance but never did I have to get towed and lately I am off and going in less than 5 minutes.
After removing the switch, I found out it was riveted so I had to drill it apart and I found some tiny bolts to bolt it back together having to increase the diameter a bit.
I cleaned it although it was not to dirty and applied some dielectric grease and it had six springs and clips so it was a bit of a pain to get back together.
Has anyone heard of a Toyota neutral safety switch on a Volvo, seems odd, even though some parts are interchangeable. At least I know the condition inside so I can continue to use it and should not have any problems.
Interested in other peoples insight, I may pick up an original Volvo part, but someone had to know what they were doing when they put the Toyota one on.
Thanks

You have auto transmission? AW.
Aisin Warner transmissions are part owned by Toyota and a lot of their technology and expertise has gone into their designs/operations over many years.
Based on that it is probable that some components are compatible?
