98 V70: Removing lower turbo vac hose

Post by sleddriver »

Having a tough time with this one, especially flat on my back with the car on ramps. This old hose is really stuck on tight and I'm unable to reach the 'pinchers' on the green, metal clamp from underneath. They're up on top!

From above, I can't even see down into this area. Any ideas/suggestions from those who have replaced this hose?

TIA.

All of those hoses have been PITAS on my car... The hoses are fused to the metal in most cases, so I took a Dremel cutting wheel to them in the end.

Smell was awful, but they came off... :D

Been there done that, use a very long screwdriver (such as 16" long).
Your life will be much easier.

I cut the hose off at the nipple and just used some tiny channel locks to twist it off.

I worked on this yesterday, from above this time. The hose was able to resist my pulling without breaking, so I let it be...for now. Tried to pinch the green metal clamp using pliers and a mirror, but just managed to rotate it out of position. Royal PITA.

I had taken the air intake hose and airbox out while doing something else and decided to change the hoses to the turbo. I used a small set of pliers with an angled end and was able to get it no prob. It was difficult to get the spring clamp undone so just grabbed one side and bent it into submission. Once everything was out of the way from above it was really no big deal. A small pliers was key. Even with the intake bits out it was too tight for the full size pliers I had initially tried to use.

Does that hoes to the 3-way solenoid thing that is attached to the rear of the airbox? If so, mine needs to be replaced too, it's rock solid!

I've used a candle-lighter to heat and weaken the rubber. Only did that on parts where I knew it was a metal fitting, and after I'd cut away as much as possible, to avoid bits falling into the ports. Either way, pain in the ass.

This!

Accessing those turbo hoses is only a minor inconvenience one you move the other stuff out of the way. Totally worth it.
