Volvo 850/70 Truths

It sure is nice to not have the front end of the car jump around and the steering wheel jerk back and forth under braking due to the warped rotors.

Lee's quote from this brake thread got me thinking.

In my 7 years of reading and hosting Volvo forums, and owning my 850, there are a few Volvo 850/70 Truths* I've discovered:

>> turbos don't go bad
>> rotors warp
>> OEM radios don't get stolen
>> the high end OEM stereo sounds very good
>> radio reception is poor
>> the ride is stiff
>> the "222-hp" turbo engine probably puts out more than 222
>> they're damn safe cars
>> best seats ever
>> the 90's models still look good to my eye
>> brakes either spew dust (OEM) or noise (aftermarket)



* this is a generality. there will always be exceptions, and you might be one of them

Ha...all good comments. Luckily I have not experienced too many of the "bad" things about the 850's! I have noticed that many of the rims are soft and make slow tire leaks over time. Despite some of the drawbacks, I really love this car and good to know that others appreciate it as well!
I would add another comment: You always learn something new about your volvo on matthewsvolvosite!

-Ignore the airbag 'expiration' label... there is a recent TSB stating to remove it, since they will last the life of the car.

Yeah, my dash creeks and pops. My wife always yells at me when it happens thinking that i did something to break the car.

They not only look good to my eye, they look distinctive. Everyone knows the rich, elegant shape of a Volvo and you can't help but take a second look when you see one. You don't get that from a Honda or a Ford unless you've been adding on a bunch of aftermarket crap to "personalize" it, and then only to laugh at it...

The seats in my 960 are like Stressless Ekornes chairs. I'd say they are much more comfortable than the seats in my 850.

-Your PNP switch will fail
-Your tailgate panel will break and rattle
-Your Volvo is unfamiliarly front wheel driven

I love the stiffness of the 850. I handles so well in high speed turns like twisty exit ramps.
