2000 S70 Flashing Arrow
2000 S70 Flashing Arrow
My 2000 S70, non-turbo (gas) has 132,000 miles and the Check Engine Light comes on intermittently and the flashing arrow comes on too. Sometimes the speedo is erratic or doesn't work but overall the car runs great. I read a number of articles here on the S70 forum and after looking at the codes I pulled P0717 and P0722. It sounded like it was my PNP switch. I have since replaced with a new one but still get the flashing arrow and CEL but now have a P0600 code (glow plug...my car is not a diesel) no longer have the other codes. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

Flashing arrow, no good it means transmission issue.Samtara1 wrote:My 2000 S70, non-turbo (gas) has 132,000 miles and the Check Engine Light comes on intermittently and the flashing arrow comes on too. Probably a transmission code. You need to find a Volvo specific type of reader to get the proper diagnostic.

You can go to a Volvo dealer or independent Volvo shop to have those codes read. They may charge you for it. Once you have the actual code numbers post back here and someone will be able to start helping you.

Follow-up...like a goof ball I didn't reset the codes after installing the new PNP switch. I reset codes and no more flashing up arrow or CEL! Drove it for 25 miles street and highway no issues so far!
The PNP switch was a new part for $68 at FCP Euro. The PNP switch replacement was easy and there are a couple of YouTube videos (Robert Spinner video was the best) that show you step by step on how to do the job. The toughest part is getting the three separate pin guides out. You will need MAF cleaner to loosen and lube, a small crevice tool (to hold down release tab) and then slightly tug on wires lifting up after removing all boots and zip ties. Simple job without any specialty tools.

Glad you resolved your issue. The key with the PNP switch connectors is patience. Gently pull it out without breaking it.
