Volvo 240 - B230F idle and ignition problem

Post by Vegvolvo »

Good day fellow Volvo owners! I've had a problem with my 1989 volvo 244 B230F for a while now and i can't seems to find or fix the problem.

The problem: The car idles very rough. In addition, if it goes on idling for more than 1 min, it starts shaking, and then turns off. If i stay very long at stoplights i sometimes 1/4 times gets misfire and the exhaust is making a "booom". Often when i try to accelerate and put the gas pedal to max the car stalls and will not increase its RPM. It only does if i give it a little push on the pedal, and then it slowly gains speed.

What i've changed:

- Distributorcap
- Spark plugs
- Spark plug wires and distributor-coil wire
- Lambasonde (O2 sensor)
- MAF

Ah yes, John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom

So, change out fuel filter, and if the same, do a rail pressure test.

The compression is fine.

Compression refers to cylinder pressure test. Fuel pressure is tested at the fuel rail.

I'm assuming your volvo has LH 2.4 setup. So, what code(s) does EZK/LH-2.4 show?

The symptoms mentioned suggests a lean mixture.

Im not too good with cars, but i can't test the fuel rails. Yeah i have the LH 2.4 setup i think. But i get the code 1-1-3 and 2-3-2

Here's code's

Either low rail pressure, or an injector issue, most likely.

One could remove spark plugs, and compare them to each other.

After driving for a bit like 100 kilometeres, two of the spark plugs gets more black then the other two.

Leaking injector 0-rings? The o-rings that seal the injector between the fuel rail and the intake manifold.
