Decode Data plate for parts order

Post by ktuuri »

I'm trying to decode the Data plate so I can order the proper Timing belt kit for my 98 / s70 T5.
My Vin is YV1LS5344W2450325. The Data I find shows the last 6 numbers as my Chassis number.
But when ordering parts from Rock Auto it shows 7 numbers for engine or Chassis number.
( Example ) ( To Chassis 1266128.,) ( From Chassis 1266129 ). ( Engine No. 1266127 & Before.) ( Engine No. 1266128 & After )

So what Timing belt kit is needed?

Thanks
Ken

look on the front (RH side) of the timing cover. if the decals are still there and legible, it will have your engine number.

CONTITECH TB331K1 probably this one, your car should have hydraulic tensioner.
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

Do you have the original timing belt cover on your engine? If so, check out the engine serial number on it. That will tell you.
Otherwise, take a peek behind the cover to see if you have a mechanical tensioner or a hydraulic tensioner. "Up to 1266128" would be the latter, "from 1266129" the former. That will determine which belt and tensioner you need.
