I bought a 1999 V70 AWD XC yesterday. It has 75,000 miles on it, one owner, and it's in pristine condition. I have a few questions about the timing belt, water pump, and SRS.
1: The interval for the timing belt is 105,000/10 years. The timing belt has not been changed, and despite the low mileage, we are several years over ten. I know that the previous owner was meticulous about getting it serviced, and I know there's always a bit of debate about these timing belts, but I don't want to throw this car away over timing belt failure. Should I just go ahead and get it replaced. along with the tensioner?
2: If the consensus is to have it replaced, do I really have to replace the water pump also? That adds quite a bit of shop time, according to my mechanic, as well as cost for parts (he allows me to bring my own parts).
3: I traded in my 1994 850 wagon, on which the driver's side seat belt failed. When I was poking around trying to fix it, I saw that the SRS needs to be either replaced or serviced by a certain date. Out of curiosity, I checked my new Volvo for that information, and it looks like the system needed to be checked or replaced in 2009. What does that mean, exactly, and is it something that positively needs to be done?
Thank you all very much in advance!
Adriana
