how to turn off low beam light on 2004 S80 Volvo

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

So far as I know, only one study has found no statistically significant difference in crash statistics between cars using DRL/Low Beams and nothing. Every other study indicates at least a 8.7% decrease in accidents for cars using either one. I would think that would be enough reason right there, guess not for you.

I still haven't been able to figure out an energy saving -
But if we were to decide that any and all energy savings, large or small, real or imagined, were worth a concomitant decrease in saftey then I guess you could simply remove all your bulbs and never drive with those pesky little devils at all. And don't forget to remove those airbags, seat belts, head rests, and the Side Impact Protection System ( reinforced lower sill, B pillar, and energy absorbing honeycomb materials inside the doors, first used by Volvo BTW, now everyone uses it) components. Now you're pulling less weight around and are really saving fuel. Junking the side mirrors may net some aero advantages as well.

The only real 'disadvantage" to DRL's is the increased cost of replacing bulbs. I order several sets at once to partially offset the cost - I figure that repair and time savings will account for more than the rest over my lifetime.

I once figured energy saving from not using lights as follows. When an alternator is charging, it places more drag on the engine than when it is not charging the battery. So when the battery ia full, my assumption (don't know for sure though) is that the alternator stops charging and this reduces drag on the engine = less fuel used. Turning on low beam lights increases power consumption = more alternator charging = more fuel used. But the safety advantage should prevail, I agree.

I wanted to turn my 2004 S80 T6 daytime running lights off too and it requires software download according to my dealer. I was told software is not available anymore. My 2002 S80 T6 had optional headlights that came on with a light sensor, HID I think the option was called. I wish my 2004 had the HID lights too. If anyone finds the software I want mine off as well! It took nearly a act of God to get Volvo to give my dealer the software to stop the On Call message to stop when my car was no longer supported. I never could get the DRL eliminating software installed. June

This feature is called Daytime Running Lights. Your car or motorcycle is much more visible to oncoming traffic when the headlights are on, which results in fewer accidents. The typical scenario is a car that pulls out onto the road, and is then struck broadside or rear-ended because they didn't see an oncoming car. When a car is directly approaching you there is little apparent motion to catch your attention. This effect of improved visibility via headlights provides benefit during the daytime, hence the name. For safety reasons, please consider your motivations for disabling this important feature. Both the generator and the battery are sized with the idea that the headlights will always be on.

The 99-2004 P2 models no longer have the software available because the software is no longer needed. VIDA 2015 has that and most other previously software adjustable features for 99-2004 available as adjustable settings in CE/ Vehicle Commmunication/ programming or /advanced

The settings are Flexlgt, Flexstd, and Flexnoll. I believe Flexnoll is the standard headlight switch functioning where headlampss will be off in pos 0. The settings are referenced in VIDA
