That's not that bad then. You're fortunate to have them looking out for you yet and hooking you up. I still have a lot of respect for parts stores. They can really get you out of bad spots sometimes and they have a number of things you won't find anywhere else when you're really needing it.

Yeah, I used to be that guy that people would come in specifically to have me help them. I'm fairly picky myself going to parts stores, I really don't anymore unless its something like spark plugs, light bulbs, oil, or something I need quickly. I left there on my good terms so the manager is still pretty cool with me. If I need something shipped in to a "store or preferred shop" he lets me have it sent to the store. Plus having worked there if I need something I just look it up on the computer and get it myself weather it's in the back or not to keep the people working their free to help others. I'll help people find things too if I'm there waiting.

Sorry for getting back late. Changed the filter to a Mann filter tonight, will update In the morning about if the ticking is gone

I used to have this so bad, i tried additives and everything, I was then recommended by a Volvo mechanic to switch to Castrol Edge Full Synthetic 10w-30. It has been 3 years now and haven't heard them tick at all!

Update: When I changed the filter, I started the vehicle and revved it a little bit to get the oil flowing and topped off from there. This morning on the initial drive it was quieter but still fairly audible. I drop off my daughter at my parents house before I go to work. The first drive is about a mile long and heard the ticking pretty much all through it. The second drive to work (next city over about 15 miles) no ticking at all. So far so good

The oil currently is Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30 - will change to 10w-30 when the oil needs to be changed next to further improve.

Note that speedyt5 lives in Texas. in Wisconsin you may want the 5-xx in the winter, although Mobil 1 may be fine in 10-xx. Anyway, I would go to 5w-40, or 10w-40 may be fine if you keep running Mobil 1.

It's not the oil pump, they pretty much never fail. The oil pan o-rings are almost guaranteed to be less than 100% but you can buy a little time with different oil.

Since your car is a turbo, I would definitely go with a slightly heavier weight oil, mine all get 5w-40 synthetic. Oil threads ...

I thought going to a 10-ww would be a little thick for winter time around here. Living here I don't think I've ever had to use an oil that thick. I did talk to a Volvo technician from around here, I asked what he would specify using because a lot of people told me to use a thicker oil, he said they automatically default to 5w30 for most cases because of the weather. Another note to add to this, because of the lovely WI weather it was 75 F when I changed the filter and tested for ticking last night and it will only get to 65 F today so it was around 62 F this morning on my "actual test." That's pretty much the temperature at which you'll typically change the viscosity but because it will be in the 80's and 90's later this week again I'm going to wait it out to see what happens.
