Hello there,

Any way to disable the interior lights that come on when the door is opened?
I dont need them and with modern flashlights i can see much better with a high powered LED light.
I dont want to permanently disable them however, so i don want to take the bulbs out for example.
On the old Hyundai i had, the only ceiling lamp had a three way switch where you could select one of:
1. On (always on, never shuts off)
2. Automatic (when the door is opened it comes on, when the door is closed it shuts off)
3. Off (never turns on unless you flip the switch manually again to 1 or 2 above).

Alternately, how hard is it to change one of the bulbs in one of the overhead interior lights?
I might be able to swap it out for a high powered white LED Luxeon or Cree Star which would easily provide MUCH better interior lighting when it is actually needed.

Thank you.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Does you dome light look like this? If so the switch is in the center, the center position will turn them off completely.

In my V70, I believe pushing the left side of the rocker switch disables the interior lights completely. Mind you, the footwell lights will always come on with the doors, regardless of whether the dome light switch is off.

All of the interior bulbs are easy to get to, especially the overhead ones. Many people have switched over interior lighting to LEDs, e.g. https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=35000. LED availability has really improved since that thread was started (e.g. https://www.superbrightleds.com/) so you don't need to solder any more to do it, be sure to read some of the more recent posts. There are a lot of threads like that one if you try the search function.

Now that you mention it, I think some models didn't have the switch. Seems stupid, but I think I've seen it before.

The switch is a standard feature. All trim lines have it.

Hi,

Oh ok thanks for that link. I guess it is in the owners manual then.
I'll check next time i go out to the car. The switches are probably there i just didnt notice them yet because they are overhead.
