850 auto front driveshaft

so i need to replace the gaiter and joint on this 850 im rebuilding , ive counted the splines and its a 25 spline , but can only find 26 spline driveshafts?

i read something on here the other day about 25-26 spline driveshafts but do you think i can find it now ?

can anyone help?

Maybe that is a European thing, as here, all 850's and 98 V/S70's autos are now listed with only one option of shaft. I had this confirmed by the dealer. Turbos are different, but a friend just fitted the later axle with the bolt to his 98 V70 T5 turbo.

Is your car a manual or auto?

I'd go have a look at one, and make sure it is for a auto or manual and the description is correct. Having not owned a manual I'm not sure if that may be the difference.

There is a company in England that sells the outer joint for the axle. Can't remember if it was called PFV or something like that.

These are the guys, why not call them?

Thanks Neil, yeah I know the boys at pfv pretty well they just said to count how many splines it has ....

It's an auto as per the tittle, the outer joint is 90mm apparently there are only 2 versions? Think the turbo versions are bigger?

Just concerned with how many splines it has as I've counted it many many times and it's still 25 lol

I have to say that counting the splines is hard thing to do as they are fairly small.

What do the guys at PFV have to say. They have a lot of knowledge on this. Worst that can happen is you have to return the part. Is a remanufactured unit like an FEQ part worth considering? I can't tell you yet how my car has worked out on this as it is not running yet. It is a 97 850 NA auto. I'll try to get a chance to check the number of splines on it for you and post back later.

Checked all the axles I have (4 off) and all for the 97 850 auto NA, and all have 26 splines. Methinks maybe you need to re-check and don't forget to count the missing finger too!

I used a marker pen and marked every 5 splines and it kept coming up 26!

When I read the information on the attached thread it says ALL have 26 splines. The reference to the 25 splines refers to the inner splined section that the outer CV joint slides onto on the main shaft section.
