2001 V70 Cranks over no start no codes...bad ETM Topic is solved

Here's my problem. My 2001 V70 died in my driveway. I check for codes and nothing popped up. Took a fuel pressure reading and it was low. Changed out the fuel filter was a little clogged not too bad. Primed the new fuel filter and fuel line. Cranked the engine a few times it wanted to start but didn't. Then the fuel pump made that loud death noise. The pump died right there.... Installed a brand new Bosch fuel pump with pickup.
Primed everything again and cranked her over the pump is nice and quit but still no start. Turns over and it wants to start but doesn't. I need some help.....

Whats the fuel pressure at the rail? Needs to be 50 psi to run.

If it's firing a bit it sounds like you still have fuel delivery problems.

Pull the plugs, inspect them, snap a pic and post here
While you have the cover off, confirm the timing belt is intact and moving on the cams ( look on passenger side of top of motor)
Checking compression on a high mileage motor over 150k is also prudent

Ultimate test for fuel delivery is to pull the entire injector rail and see if all five injectors are spraying a nice cone of gas

Ok here we go. Pulled all plugs inspected and cleaned the carbon off reinstalled. No excess gas found on the plugs after cranking the engine. Found third plug wasn't firmly seated. Checked cyl pressure with my 1970's tester. Got a reading around 150 psi on all cylinders. Checked for spark on the last cyl and she was good. Timing belt firmly seated no odd noises coming from the head. Fuel pressure at the rail is a steady 55psi. The old fuel pump was tested at 25-30psi.
I have yet to reinstall the back seats just in case I find a leak. So I do have a service air bag memo on the left cluster.

Hmmm

Running very rich. Lots of excess gas. Take a good luck at your induction hoses from the turbo to the intercooler and from there to throttle body. If any get loose, that's what you will see ( and a no start , too)

The plugs weren't damp and didn't smell like gas. It took a wire brush to knock off the harden carbon.
A few months back we had the main vacuum line for the braking system fail. It was a plastic Y fitting that cracked. Very common on the 2.4 T.

From what I have read the 2.4l turbo engines with plastic fuel tanks don't have fuel pressure sensors just the valve on the rail. I did locate the map sensor on the air tube.
Cranked over the engine it wanted to start when I was feathering the gas pedal but died after stumbling. No raw gas smell from pumping the pedal?? Could it be a map sensor problem?? Still no codes....

If you don't want to pull the fuel injector rail, lets pull the plugs, put one shot of ether (starting fluid) into each cylnder and see if it VROOMs into life for a few seconds.

Is it cranking funny at all or does it sound totally normal? You could put a straw full of engine oil into each cylinder too, to eliminate 'lawn mower syndrome'

Finally - pressure is regulated on your P2 via a fuel pressure sensor on the end of the rail (my 2005 model shown here, NA) - do you have this gizmo??

Dont forget to top off that coolant

Do you have rare 7 cylinder white block too??
