Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2002 S80 - Loss of Dashboard Functions

Post by mudcat »

I have lost all dashboard functions: fuel, tempertature, tach, speedometer are all dark. Prior to this I had a SRS error code on the screen.

I hope this doesn't have anything to to with the ECM.

Any help is appreciated.

Just sold my V70, with 144k. I knew that was a bad idea.

Did you check the fuse? I've reseated fuses on my dad's S80 to clear up a "limp home" mode the car went into.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Checked all fuses, pulled the ones associated with the dash, and ecm, and nothing. I also replaced the battery becuase when I went to check the water, it was really low. A battery test showed a real low charge and it was 5 years old.

This has become an intermittant problem. The dashboard has not worked at all when I drove to work the past two days, however, when I go out at lunchtime and drove it, the dash functioned normally. Both days, the car has been sitting in the hot sun.

This has to be a power supply problem to the dash.

I am going to try the dealer first, but I am not real confident with these guys for a intermitant problem. I need to get a wiring diagram so I can start hunting for a loose terminal.

Dealer diagnosed the problem as dim module. Dealer quoted $850 for a new part. I found a used dim from an independent volvo parts guy for $65. I will let you know if the used part works.

Thank God for the internet.

Just like mudcat my car was sitting under the sun and very hot. I took the car to the dealer and they told me that they needed to update the ecm software due to a clitch that will cause the problem. I paid 118.00 for the software update. I think they are hoping it will fix the problem. I will update after a month.

Did changing the dim module fixed the issue?
