Permatex Anaerobic sealant

Post by Geevs »

HI, I'm planning to use this on my cam cover. What is the preferred method for applying - use a small foam roller or just squeeze out a bead line from the tube?

Is there any curing time?

Would appreciate any tips from those who have used this. Thanks!

I foam rolled on the volvo branded goop. Did entertain using an off-brand, but time=money and I needed the turbo fridge on duty with little to no downtime.
ugh smh 850 Turbo fridge

The foam roller method gives you nice even coverage on the sealing surface. I wouldn't try this job any other way. Make sure you cover every little portion of the sealing surface.

There's no curing time with an anaerobic sealant ... it stays wet until the surfaces are joined together and it drys in the absence of air.

I used the Elring brand sealant from RM European and a small foam roller from Michael's craft store with excellent results. I suspect the Permatex brand sealant will be fine as well.

Dont put loads on though , you really dont need much at all as there are tiny oil ways in the cam cover that you really dont want to block up.

Yes - applying a bead would be a getting it all wrong. Many people overdo it with the roller too: you just want a very thin layer, for example enough to make it light pink when you are using the Volvo brand (I don't know what color the Permatex is).

I squeezed out a bead (no roller) and have not found any ill effects. I did not GLOP it on and used a very small diameter bead.

It's been over a year and all seems well.
I used the Permatex Anerobic.
