Timing won't lineup

Post by niifio »

Have turn engine clockwise 3 times with timing belt untouched but timing marks will not lineup. I crank the car and it runs great. Timing marks are M and ^. Need help to change the timing belt.

Are you talking about your '02 S60? If so, I believe it has a single VVT hub. You can also refer to my PDF for guidance on timing alignment which is a compilation of details from several sources. My PDF is targeted towards a dual CVVT hub setup, but the principles can easily be applied to a single VVT hub arrangement.

Finally got to read your write up on dual vvt hubs, wish it had been available before I did my cam seals, very good clear cut directions.

Thanks. I just tried to compile all the useful info I found helpful to me while I was in the mode of a vertical learning curve regarding the VVT hubs.

eXACTLY WHICH MARKS DONT LINE UP.?
Are the 2 cam marks in sync with each other but out of sync with crank are all 3 out of whack with each other.
The crank pulley is keyed but the cam pulleys are not keyed .

Also, exactly how far off are the timing marks, try to be specific, one tooth off? 5 teeth off?
What is your history with this car, who did the belt previously.
