V70 II T5 Inlet Manifold Removal
Re: V70 II T5 Inlet Manifold Removal
So its not a valve at all then really? PCV is the system, and its an error to refer to the "nipple" or the "valve" with the heating element (I'm surprised it has this) as valves...?

Yes, that mistake is often made here. It's not a valve, just an office, aka hole.
The electrical connection is just a heater.
The user manual calls it a PTC nipple.

OK I have finished the job, I don't know about doing it in 8 hours, I have spent maybe 16 hours over 2 weeks! However, the glove on the oil filler test sucks in fast hot or cold engine now and the engine sounds spot on, so I am pleased now. Thanks for your various bits of advice.
The hardest bits I think are removal and refitting of the throttle and its air pipe, the banjo bolt and refitting the PTC nipple and pipe to the turbo. Really faffy.
My advice to anyone would be with regards to the banjo bolt, that you do not need to remove the alternator or PS pump. If you undo the coolant pipes to the banjo, at the banjo end for the pipe from the thermostat housing, and at the pipe end for the other section joining the PCV heater pipe, then it is possible to get the banjo on. I fitted the banjo onto the IM and then fitted the pipes with jubilee clips from under and above the IM. The breather pipe from the banjo was connected before I lowered the IM and I left the breather pipe loose on the oil trap, tightening it from underneath afterwards. I used 1/4 drive tools with several extensions. It is a faff but I succeeded, and also reinsulated the wiring for the injectors and coils.
Next jobs ahead are a new radiator as there is a small leak from the lower left side plastic joint; probably new lower front wishbones; new cambelt because although the one fitted is in good order I do not know when it was changed; new amp as the radio only plays through the central speaker; new radio knobs as the ones on it are sticky; respray left rear wing as it is scratched. Also, probably new front brake discs. Only 10k miles in 2.5 years but badly scored.
As a last note there are some good youtube videos on the PCV service, I had to smile at DIY Volvo Robert from New Mexico, his videos are good, and hopefully he is out of hospital now!
