I think I can answer your question but I'm not sure what it is. :?

By "cruise cut out switch" are you talking about the brake/clutch switches or the switch on the stalk?

Your intermittent problem could be either the stalk or the pedal switches. What year and model are we working with here? If you have a '95 or below there are diagnostics that you can do yourself to trace the problem. If you have a '96 or newer you either need a Volvo Scan Tool or some luck to trace it out.

Cool, we can actually do stuff without the dealer. Run the diagnostic flywire to socket B-2. When you press the button once it will read error codes - chances are you will only get code 1-2-2. This should be a relief since it says that - at the time you are reading the code - the car is traveling less than 35 kph.

You then need to enter diagnostic mode. Press the diagnostic button three times in fairly quick succession. At that point the LED should blink rapidly. As the cruise on button is set to on, it should respond with a standard 3 digit code and then spit additional codes as the set +, set -, resume, and brake buttons/pedals are pushed. If you get no response from an item, that means the system did not sense that input.

The official decoder ring is included in the manual that is pinned at the top of the page. Look at the file called cruise control system.pdf. It spells out the code you should receive from each of the respective inputs. Also read the part about adjusting the pedal switches - 9 time out of 10 that is where the problem is.

It is a 2 person job since you need a button pusher as well as a code reader.

Let us know what you find.

This switch also completes the release circuit for shifting out of park.
