Re: 96' 850 timing belt snapped
Hey hey, so after the magnet on a stick didn't work, I built a electro magnet and hooked it up to a car battery, strong enough to lift a 25lb dumbbell but no luck! I tried the magnet on a stick on last time, really pushing it in their until it got stuck. Right as I had given up (and completely given up on my car) I pulled as hard as I could to get the magnet out and out came the bolt with it! So now I'm going to work on the TB after I put the cams back in, this time with some engine assemble grease.

Nice work on the electromagnet, that is clever!
With the cams out, are you able to turn the crank around by hand, no problem?

By, "by hand" do you mean with a socket on the crank? Cause I can move it all the way around without trouble, i aligned it with the water pump and am ready to put the cam cover back on.

Yeah with a socket sounds good. You lined up the mark on the crank pulley to the one on the oil pump housing you mean, right? Just making sure. No marks on the water pump involved.

Hey had to take a break, at it again. Got the cam cover on and tried to turn the cams, the exhaust cam does a full 360 but the intake snags on something about half a turn around and wont continue. Any idea what that means? Robert in the video on the 3rd page of this post said he thought he felt a snag while turning the intake cam.

They still turned 360 degrees, both of them when the crank is on the mark.
By statement on page 1 basically said that I believe the head is trashed. If timing is off by more than 3 teeth, it's over. If you hit the starter and the crank turned but the cams were locked/stuck, it's over.
Anything short of replacing that head is a waste of time.
