thanks for clarifying, what I suspected. I tried both keys. I will purchase a new antenna ring. I wish I could test it,but I assume it's not possible. I have never seen any post on testing one. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.abscate wrote: 11 Apr 2017, 20:10 That fault code is telling the ECU the start isn't authorized. The start run stall cycle is exactly correct for a bad key chip or a fault in the key reader.

I think I snagged One off my parts car, I put the part number into the. List on the parts form. I guess the only thing you can test is continuity on it.
I have one key for my 99 tha t didn't chip correctly, it starts the car, runs for two serconsds , then stalls, after that, it won't start ( just cranks) unless it's removed from range of the antenna ring for some time. Apparently immob " trips " can be sticky.

Thanks abscate for your help! The new antenna ring solved the problem. It goes into limp mode due to the etm problems that seem to be common in this model. I removed and cleaned it to no avail. However, when I unplug the maf sensor it dies. Then I plug it back in it runs and idles perfect, until I drive it a little harder than normal. It is my understanding the marelli magneti etm is under extended warranty from Volvo. Is this legitimate? The only codes coming up now are for the faulty signal of the throttle position sensor. I have seen many posts advising the replacement be a Bosch unit. Is this the way to go?

The warranty was 10 years or 100,000 so you are probably not going to collect on that.
The replacement for the MM throttle body is the same one, or a XEMODEX one with a contactless sensor

I went with a new Volvo white label unit, but the sacher replacement (DIY), Xemodex through FCP , and junkyard route ( programming required) are the three choices at present.
