What is the purpose of black color I-beam behind the mount in your photo.

On our 1997 850 it looks little different.

OK -- So, having done the delta links a few weeks back, I'd like to do the transverse arm bushings, but can't seem to remove the mounts. I'm not really interested in removing the shocks and springs. Can I unload the rear suspension with a floor jack under the spring seat while leaving the rear shocks in place? Also, the rear anti-sway bar on the driver's side really seems to be in the way whereas on the passenger side, because of where it mounts doesn't seem to be a problem.

Any suggestions?

It was the most fascinating project for me. Amazed to learn how it worked at a unit -- jaw dropping. It is one system with two pieces connected with mounts.

I like to avoid force, lever, and pressure when working on garage floor with jack-stands. Clear the floor area. You must raise and set the car on chassis.

I was at ease working when shock and spring is unmounted at transverse. Very fluid, so control it with various raising tools and techniques -- just do not panic. Not for faint heart.

You want both transverse arms free, but only suspended at the delta. Protect lines.
Taking off rear-brake clipper and disk would take the weight off too.

Rehearse and enjoy, it is a fun project.

Ok. More than I have time for right now. May wait until I have to renew rear suspension components.

It took me more than a year to find money, collect parts and tools, know the steps, plan for failures, eliminate associated risks, save a little, and time during a long uninterrupted weekend to complete the job.

Do not proceed as an emergency repair.

One year ago I installed a pair of PPS into my daily driver, they are working great but have a lot of surface rust.

Difficult to answer since it was an overhaul project for me. I collected OE/OEM parts over time and/or on sale.
