Air con and worn bush noise?

Hi everyone.

Couple of issues. I have a Volvo V70 estate 2.4 2002.

1. I have a horrible vibration, rattle, noise etc coming from inside the cab, usually on start up, leaves when driving. After months of trying to find this, I called in a garage i know. And straight off the bat he said it was where the AC pipes enter the cab from the engine bay, and the seals had worn, creating vibration noise when cold. Does this sound about right? Said it was a common fault, although I cant find it googling. If so, is there anyway around solving this, or is it a complete replacement, of which i understand requires the whole dash removal?

2. Also regarding the AC. Just had a recharge, and it seems that real cold air is only coming out from the passenger side. Even that isnt that cold, and the guy who charged it said there wasnt any leaks... How could this be on one side only? I have ordered a 2nd hand CCU incase it electrical there somewhere. interested to hear your thoughts?

3. The rear heat shield (the large one near petrol tank at rear of car over last baffle) has broken off from the brackets and is hanging loose. Dare i say it, can this be removed under normal driving conditions and left off, or is this advisable to repair?

Can't say about those pipes, I know my pipes to the heater core were rattling a bit, surely not that loud. The best is really to try pressing some foam/fabric where you think they touch and rattle and see if the noise has gone. More frequently it's the heat shield over the exhaust manifold that will rust and rattle. Or the several heat shields over the exhaust pipe from the engine back to the gas tank that become loose and rattle: the way to find the culprit is to kick them with a pole (engine off) and see which one would rattle, these are rather hard to quiet.

Air only on one side might have to do with the actuator or swirl arm on the ccm. I believe it's part 9. Maybe give it a check, careful not to disconnect anything electrical or a SRS message will go off. You can just turn on the ignition, unscrew the motor - it has a small pressed in hinge on the right side, then move the hinge with a screw driver.

The shield between the exhaust and the gas tank is important to be repaired, it prevents gasoline from overheating from the exhaust. If you were rather talking about the shield just above the muffler, that one is less important in my opinion.
