I've been debating in my mind whether to finish fixing my 00 Volvo s80. Plan B is to craigslist it
It has 221,000 Miles on it. I bought it at 150k with approximately 75k of no recorded maintenance on the car. I kept the oil changed regularly with 6 quarts full synthetic and 1 quart lucas stabilizer. I didnt always add the stabilizer, but when I did it's lucas.
Car runs good, getting proper gas mileage, etc. So far I have changed in all..
*Timing belt
*Tensioner
*Idler Roller
*Water Pump
*Serpentine Belt
*Spark Plugs (Twice since purchased @150K)
*1 Coil
*Transmission Filter and 7 quarts of fluid
*Fuel Filter
*Cabin Filter
*Oil filter and Syn Oil (20+ times since purchased)
*Fuel door hinge
*Radiator and coolant
*Air Filter (5/6 times since purchased)
*All bulbs are fresh
*Upper Engine mount
EXISTING PROBLEMS!
Front suspension has got to go. The tiniest of cracks have the oomph of the grand canyon.
Front struts needed, control arm bushing are shot and whatever else that needs to be replaced.
It pulls hard left when braking and has the tendency to jerk. I have to turn my wheel to 3 o'clock when I stop to stop straight. It also eats front tires, they both have a camber but the passenger side sticks out 2 or 3 centimeters at the bottom. The rear shocks need to be replaced as well.
The PCV system needs to be replaced and possibly along with the cam shaft seals.
Its throwing a p1330 code, guess i'll have to pull the intake solenoid off and clean/inevitably replace it. If that fails clearing the p1330 I suppose the cam shaft position sensor
The transmission seems fine. I get some hesitation here and there but I still feel I get the response (all that the 2.9 has) when I need it.
I baby this thing when I drive, but this suspension non-sense has my brain vibrating in my skull. I do all the work myself and it doesn't seem to tough of a job but we are talking ca$h money on parts doing the job myself. I don't even want to get into the front seat re upholstery.
$300 on struts and shocks
$300 on control arms ball joints etc
$300 on pcv system
$150 on cvvt solemoid
I bought the car for $6,100 In 2010. I've just dropped a grand on the parts 10k ago. With another grand to spend, what to do? Sell and buy a shiney 2008+ S80 maybe the V8 or keep forever?
