98 S70 GLT Key Spin

Post by TheSwede »

About two weeks ago my key started spinning in the ignition. I searched the site and as usual, it seems to be a fairly common problem. I went to the stealership and ordered the mechanical portion of the ignition. The spinning got so bad, I was almost stranded a couple times. I sprayed some WD-40 in where you would insert the key and since then (about 50 start cycles) I haven't had the key spin at all. I'm going to install the mechanical part of the ignition in any case, but is my problem more likely the electrical portion and the WD-40 just cleaned it up a little bit? Anyone experience something similar?

Your ignition switch is worn out. The only real solution is to switch it out.
