alumnium heatercore pipes rusty
Hi guys, Hope everyone is having a Great Day! I went to the Junkyard and found my alumnium heatercore pipes for my "94" 850. they are rusty. what is the best and safest way to clean the rust off where the orings fit on. I've thought steel wool but afraid of scratching them, fine sandpaper is what most people recommend, Whats your take? I want the orings to fit perfectly, I dont want any leaks, This is a pain in the rear job........

I want to apologize to all who responded to my post and I did not return any questions nor answers, for awhile I could not get my password to work, and I'll admit I have'nt had the time. The sputtering has gone away, I had my cat. converter checked.it was fine and afterwards I replaced my fuel pump relay, walla!! but then it happened again, I replaced the fuel filter then put in a new fuel pump, the minute I reved it a couple chunks of old cat. converter rock came out, since then its been fine, ever now and then I think there are a few that keep coming out of the muffler, kinda weird I know, but hey shes all good. except the heatercore rust, I see I have views but no replys, Like I say it was'nt my intention to shine anyone one, Sorry! Have a Good Day!

If it were me, I'd replace them.

Trouble with replacing them is the firewall coupler will probably start to leak once they are released necessitating even more cost & labour.
Many have cut the tubes shorter to avoid using the coupler and run standard heater hose through a gutted out coupler straight to the engine block.

The only place that matters is where the orings sit, for sealing. Fine steel wool might scratch a bit but the oring would seal on scratches fine.
