Ok I located the PTC and was able to pull the connector,,,with the PTC disconnected the #5 fuse dose not blow! I metered the PTC and it reads about 4 ohms, it is a heater but if its blowing the fuse then I have to assume its shorted.
I see that I can purchase one for about $110 this includes the entire intake hose, is it possible to purchase just the heater?
I could only find the hose assembly. What dose the acronym "PTC " stand for?
Good news but,,still have no idea were the vent valve is located, apparently it is not the culprit.

Sorry if this shows up twice I thought I already posted this reply. ANYWAY,,,,
Found the PTC tucked in back of the motor as you said. Managed to disconnect the connector and retry the #5 fuse.
#5 fuse did not blow with the PTC disconnected! Metered the PTC and it reads about 4 ohms, can't say if that is good or bad but it dose blow the fuse. 4 ohms is all but a dead short so I think its safe to assume its bad. Appears the
heater is not a stand alone part and is sold with the intake hose. About a $100 worth it if it clears up the codes.

BTW Still have no idea were the vent valve resides, obviously not the culprit in this case.

OK let me try this again, for whatever reason I have had a problem posting here,,ANYWAY
The PTC was the gem!! I located and disconnected the heater #5 fuse was OK. The resistance of the heater measured 4 ohms, don't know if that is good or bad but it was taking out the fuse so I will assume bad.
After putting everything back together with the heater unplugged, all the error codes were gone (no CE light). evidently there is no check for the heater.
Seems the heater is part of the air intake tube, so I ordered a new tube, about $110 worth it!
Interestingly I still have no idea as to the location of the Vent Valve, the rest of the system got a good look see so hopefully I should be good for now.

Pump is number 5
Shutoff valve number 35 - it looks like it lives left and forward of the carbon canister on your 2002 XC
You won't be out of the Swedish forest until your EVAP cycle shows READY and no CEL but a 2002 is much better than the P80 in robustness in the EVAP cycle.

I have seen this diagram,,its close but not the same. In the location just behind the canister (item #5) I have the Vapor leak detection pump. It is larger than the vent valve or the purge valve. If you follow the diagram it shows #5 connected to #19. I believe 19 is the vent filter mounted on the fill tube. My set up the test pump is in that location and as best I can tell the hoses are set up as shown.
You might also note that this diagram dose not show a test pump.
Were I am going with this is I think the test pump also serves as the vent valve. If you look up the parts for this system it will list all three components but I have yet to see a system diagram that utilizes all three.
It would explain why I can't find the vent valve,,,its not there.
