740 Cam Pulley Removal

How do you leverage off the cam Pulley bolt? I tried using a wrench but can't stabalize the pulley.

I would leave belt on, and try a Karate chop on a 1/2" breaker bar. But, use your palm

I use impact tools, so this is not an issue

with impact tool, do you gradually throttle the switch?

Use the longest 19 mm (3/4 inch) box-end wrench you can find and smack it with a hammer. Doesn't need much of a smack from the hammer.

ok great. now, when putting the pulley back on, should I snug it, then put the belt on, then tighten it? do you worry about torquing the bolt?

Bolt requires about 37 ft-lbs torque....In your situation, I'd install timing belt, then maybe have someone hold cam with vise-grips clamped between two holes, so that a downward force would be used to hold...palm on top side of vise-grip...pressing downward..

IIRC, another way, take the old timing belt, wrap it around the cam's teeth, then vise-grip both ends of timing belt; if vise-grip is on left side, and wrench is on right side, one can exert downward force on both sides. Myself, I don't use a torque wrench since 37 ft-lbs via 1/2" break-over bar is something I have a feel for. YMMV.

Two things: vice grip all the slack, then anchor the belt with my left hand? wouldn't a shorty wrench counter leverage with my right hand since my left is not able to help?

37 ft-lbs torque - Generally, one uses a smaller length 3/8" ratchet, and its a firm pressure...YMMV

Yes, grab the slack, then clamped down vise-grip....both hands are pushing downward....been there, done that.

on un unrelated matter, I scratched the fuel ports on top of another fuel pump sender I'm putting in. will the hoses still seal?
