Try unplugging injectors one at a time. The one that causes the least disturbance to the idle is usually the bad one though there are no hard and fast rules here because pulling an injector connector also causes bad idle.
I was called out to a 2001XC70 that the roadside mechanic had diagnosed as a faulty throttle; it needed a coil pack. Apparently he had a Snap-On scanner.
Most scanners can't pick up all the sensors accurately. In this case I feel it's time to pull out the big guns.

Missing pintle caps can result in residue build up on the injector tip, poor fuel spray, lean mixtures, poor driveability and high emissions. If it ran good immediately after servicing the injectors and then degraded over time that's probably it.

Do you install new injectors or re-install the old ones with new O-rings and missing pintle caps? Don't risk driving it without pintle caps. The O-rings will get sucked into the chamber over time without caps.Unownreality wrote: ↑21 Jan 2019, 22:43 To answer a few of the posts.
- New plugs, and coils this past summer. Did the whole tune up of the car
- The injectors, you may be onto something here. When i removed the fuel rail, all of the caps where deteriorated, and I couldn't find replacement caps. So the only thing in them right now is the o-rings that were replaced. I can't seem to find just the plastic washer caps. Napa and Autozone had no idea, and just tried pushing new injectors at $80x5. Figured as long as the o-rings sealed, should be good.
- I cleaned the MAF with a cleaner, and wire brush. Tested using the computer, and the throttle opens and closes as necessary.
Also, after resetting the computer post O2 change, no more P0101. Now just the P0170 code.
This kit has the same size pintle caps as our OEM injectors

It's located in China so will take 2 weeks to deliver in the states. Under microscope they were the same size caps as the OEMs. I installed them 2 weeks ago and the A/F ratio is on target with no issues. Another member installed them a few years back and has had no issues with them.

You mention using a wire brush on the MAF
Usually no contact is needed - just use of the cleaner.
- Also did you use MAF cleaner or another product?
MAF cleaner evaporates without any deposit. Any deposits left on the sensor can affect the air flow and temperature measurements. Typically deposits reduce the air mass measure so understates the air mass and results in a more lean mix.
- A dirty MAF issue would show up more in the air to fuel ratio, rather than the throttle opening.
- Did you just clean the MAP tube's plastic grid, and not touch the MAF sensor itself with the brush?I cleaned the MAF with a cleaner, and wire brush. Tested using the computer, and the throttle opens and closes as necessary.

The injectors all looked good, and I haven't had any problems with them on the scan tool. I looked at my data and it seems to be running rich all across the board. I'll buy these pintle caps and hopefully that will solve the problem. It's hard to tell if they degraded overtime since I reinstalled them. We used a cleaner while looking at the valves, so when we initially started it the cleaner was running through so I wasn't running perfect.
