Damaged engine block?

Damaged engine block?

A cylindrical metal part at the top of the engine block used to be flush and is now protruding upwards unevenly. Sorry I don't know the name of the piece, and this has limited my ability to effectively search the forum. I've attached a photo of the part on a vacuum diagram and a picture taken in the engine compartment of the Volvo in question. The vehicle starts and runs well and is not leaking fluids, so I'm wondering whether to consider this a 'disaster waiting to happen' and take action or 'let a sleeping dog lie.'

I noticed the change in position/shape of this metal part at the same time I replaced the radiator following a minor coolant leak. The Volvo is an XC70 AWD 2000.

It is a plug. Check the PCV with glove test. June

Oh that is the cam cover, not the block. Perhaps that will help your searching. June

That is a plug.
As June said, do the PCV "Glove test". You'll wind up seeing an oil leak there at that plug, if you do have a problem with excessive crankcase pressure (Due to a clogged PCV system).

You should be able to tap that back into place, if you're careful and not ham-fisted about it.

I believe that plug is supposed to be installed with a special type of glue

Purpose is so Volvo can locate the Oil filler on either side of the engine.
Take a rubber mallet and tap the plug back down, then keep a eye on it.

Do the PCV glove test.
Glove stands up = Fail.
Glove suck down = pass.
Make sure you tie down the glove as shown in the video so that it does not get sucked into the engine.

Locate the oil cap on either side, that would be.

It's Volvo Yin/Yang

If your VIN starts with Yin, the oil filler is in front. If it is Yang, the oil filler is also in front.
