Convertible top Problems

Post by Gweir »

I have read all the topics on the top and none hit on my issue, I may be up a creek without a paddle. I bought my daughter a 1999 C70 convertible (this isn't the first C70 Convertible I've owned) and the man I bought it from said that the top did'n't work after they put a new top on it.
I get it home and I knew the button didn't work (you can hear whirring noises is all). I get in the back and the manual transmission for the top doesn't work at all now. I turn it to the manual selection and turn the allen key and it does nothing. The manual way worked on a couple occasions enough that I found that the left lock doesn't disengage. So I unscrewed the latch from the top just to find out that the deck lid only raised on the right side not the left.
I got it back down and then the manual allen driver way quit working. YOu can turn it all day and all you hear is whirring and occasional clicking, either direction.
So, my question is...Is there any other way to get the rear top up and the rear decklid released where I can get to all the mechanisms to try to fix this? Basically the power for the top doesn't work and now the manual release mechanism doesn't work either. Am I just screwed?
Please Help.

I think it is just two screws to get the upper panel in the cargo compartment off.
When you look in the trunk the screw heads will be pointing at you.

Will these allow the top to come up. Everything is in the closed position. Nothing works so if I remove those two nuts will the top and cover fold up so I can access the compartment that the top stows in?

Anyone? Does no one really know these tops? As easy as Volvo made these things to work on they had to make a fail safe to be able to get these tops up. They have to expect something like this to happen. I just need to know how to get into it. If anyone has a clue PLEASE let me know.
