High Beam Switch Issue

Post by JerseyVince »

I have no control of the high beams on my 2006 V50. Last night, the high beams began to flicker very rapidly and intermittently. I could also hear from the right side of the dashboard a switch clicking along with the lights. The high beams will stay on if I hold the lever but if I let go of it, they start to flicker shortly after again.
I have pulled the fuses for the high beams to keep the lights off.
This is my first Volvo, so I'm new to these cars.

Does anyone know the cause of this problem?

I resolved the issue with my high beams some time ago. In the end, it turned out to be the high beam switch, which I was what I was leaning towards. When the switch was disconnected, the problem would go away. The only curveball was that after re-installing the switch, the problem would go away when the ignition key was on II/RUN. It was an unusual problem to say the least. I'm glad it was something not internally wrong with the headlight system and the problem was diagnoseable without a scan tool.
