Door Water Leak

Post by CEBirnley »

The wind caught my driver side door and ripped it from my hands. Now, when driving down the road, I can hear the wind entering the vehicle as well as when it rains, water enters. This is occurring from the top of the driver window, area, basically where the door meets the roof line. I can stop the wind/water from entering the vehicle by pulling the door tightly right where the door/window curve Any thoughts? Fwiw, The mechanism which holds the door from swinging all the way open actually broke so I will be in the process of replacing that. gotta love the wind in Nebraska!!

Check the hinges are not bent or the A pillar. It could be they have been slightly deformed or bent with the hard stop.

If you can pull the door in to stop the noise it would point toward something is loose in the hinge mechanism.

Check the top area of the door has not bent (above the glass line). If the door deflected a bit, try opening the window fully and bend the front of the door frame/top of the door slightly inward.

I was worried about the hinges possibly being bent. It appears like those are welded into the frame?

You need to replace the front fender if the hinges bent

I did mine in a snow bank,

I cant even imagine living where the wind could bend a volvo door. How do you keep the doors on your house? I remember doing a job three days in 30mph wind and I almost went crazy.
