A friend in New England is considering a newer Volvo wagon. Probably in the P3 range, would rather not go as old as a P2 like mine. He could look for a nice low miles 2006 or 07 P2 however.
I don't know much about the P3 engine choices and which is the one to avoid - seems like I read about many people unhappy with one of the engines. There's a 3.2, a 3.0, and a hybrid..? Are there no white block 5 cylinders anymore?
Thank you -
A quick primer on the P3 engine options please?

The Volvo P3 platform is the Ford EUCD platform.
Compiling all the engines used on the P3 platform would be a chore.
Figure out which models he might be inserted in first.

A Wiki chart of engines...
Was it that the 3.2 NA six wasn't impressive at all, when it should have been?
I see the 5 cylinder up through 2011 it looks like.

I'm reading complaints about general lack of oomph with the 3.2 NA, oil seal issues, and poor mileage for the amount of power.
T6 (turbo six) had some transmission problems?

Naturally Aspirated are not intended for oomph. Sounds like you been reading comments from people who buy cheap and expect super car performance.

The 3.2 doesn't pack the punch people expect from such an engine if they've driven a BMW 530i for example. Poor milage for the performance you do get as well. But apart from that nice to drive. From what I've read.RickHaleParker wrote: ↑21 May 2019, 17:15 Naturally Aspirated are not intended for oomph. The T6 is supposed to be pretty bomb proof and nice to drive. Transmission probably suffers from the same "lifetime fluid" issues as all the others.

Nice ride, not everybody needs or wants a performance car.
The way to get 300,000+ miles out of a engine is, do not tap it's full performance potential and do the maintenance.
There are a lot of people out there that are clueless when it come to picking the right car for them. They bitch and blame the product when they make the wrong choice. That can be said for a lot of things other then cars.
There is no best car in the world, only the best one for you if, you know what you need ... need not want.
Tim Taylor syndrome is becoming an epidemic. Lot of sick people out there.
