Could I make a 99 B5254T engine fit into a 98 S70? My engine has a few issues and wonder if I could this swap?

Yes itll fit, not it wont be easy.

you need a computer that will run it. Maybe its possible to remove the key proteted start by the dealer with a software download and then swap the harenss from a 99 into the car? idk it it would be worth all the work.

other option would be stand alone ECU like megasquirt
2004 S60R AutoX Car
2006 S60R
2005 v70R

2006 v50 t5 AWD M66
2005 v50 t5 AWD for sale

I have a Chinese DICE, works well.
In southern Oregon.

A turbo in 1999 has variable valve timing on the exhaust cam, so its a big project to make your 1998 ECM figure out how to run that. You want to source a 1998 turbo motor for that swap

Or you can just leave it unplugged.

We put an '01 RN LPT motor(Long block) in the wife's '97GLT, and it has the exhaust-VVT. Currently still running the stock '97 ECU with no issues.

Looking to activate it later, when we install a flashed ECU that we can use to control it.

'97 854 T5 - Manual Swap/M4.4/COP/NA cams/P2R Brakes/16T/ chassis bracing/ XC70 nose swap - SOLD/GONE
The Others- '83 TBird turbo, '85 Mercury Marquis LTS (1 of 134), '86 LTD Wagon, '81 Granada GL, '76 Beetle, '87 F-150 5.0

That’s great info Chuck. I never would have though the hub locks on one place and gives solid timing but that kind of makes sense.

A LPT engine will run fine but it won't have quite as much power. You will need to basically do a block swap and use the old accessories and move the distributor from the '98 over to the '99. The holes are there for the distributor but make sure you install a rear camshaft seal. The '99, for some reason, didn't have as seal and just relied on the plug. You will also need to move the cam position sensor housing and the sensor. The tensioner and idler are set up for the double sided belt so those need to move over as well. The coil packs go away and the plug wires move over.

The injectors will stay with the old intake manifold.

The thermostat cover cap will need to be moved since the '99 doesn't have the port to overflow tank.

The ECU will be the old Motronic and like Chuck said, just leave the CVVT unplugged. You might want to re-time it since the exhaust timing is offset by one tooth when the rear of the cams are locked. It will run OK even one tooth off but it will run better timed correctly.

I think the ports are a bit different most just bolt up the manifolds and go.

As long as you leave the solenoid in place, it will stay locked.

It's good we're having this conversation, but the OP never did clarify that the S70 was a turbo, nor have they responded since.
