Where outside is the smell the strongest? Rollover valve is right rear.

Yes, yes yes yes on the gasket. I've had that fix a gas leak at least twice. They get hard and seal poorly or even crack.

By far the way to go is to pull the cover on the fuel pump and try to get an eyeball on the leak, I'd keep pushing that. And look up from under the car etc.

I don't think the "wax" coating on the wire entry port actually leads to fuel leakage, but rather it breaks down and crumbles away either with age or when there is a leak causing gas to pool up on top of it.

I looked at it, I don't see any leaks but maybe its enough so that vapor escapes but I have to pour some fuel in while I look at the top of the fuel pump, nothing is leaking from the tank neck.

What about the seal on the fuel sending unit?

I've not heard of the sending unit seal leaking, and for me the only time I have ever touched a sending unit is when I harvested the one from a parts car. But makes sense to suspect it.
