2005 V70R No power up driveway?

Hello all, first post, please be kind if this is a already well known issue, but I couldn't find anything like it with search.

Anyways, symptom is thus. I am up in the mountains (~6500ft) with the 2005 V70R with M66. AWD fully functional. Have to drive into a driveway that starts off with an abrupt upturn at the base, steep for about 15 feet, then levels out into the parking spot. Since it goes up abruptly so fast, I have to crawl into the driveway until the nose starts coming up, then i can accelerate all the way in. But for the first time, something odd happened. As I was climbing in first gear, there seemed to be zero throttle response. It felt like i was in third, not first. I checked twice, pulled out to neutral, back into first, confirmed i was definitely in first. Could not hill-start with the ebrake, no power, again felt like i was trying to hill start in third. Ended up backing up into the street, giving a bit more runway to build a little speed and made it up. I thought maybe the clutch was starting to go, but it didn't feel like a clutch slip, just no power.

One other probably unrelated thing, just before this, i was using cruise. Any chance this might be related? Any/all help appreciated.

TL;DR, no power at low speed trying to throttle up a probably 12deg climb in first gear. Had to back up and get a little speed first.

Back on the road does the car have good power through all gears!

Seems mostly normal, for high altitude. Definitely get most of the power once the turbo gets into boost.
I'm wondering if there's any relationship to a dying clutch, is there any computer knowledge of rpm vs shaft speed, that it can tell there's slipping and reduce power? So odd, never had hill start issues before.
