Your old one looks good. Mine on 02 V70 rusted to dust, had to blow torch the stump and extract it.

It doesn't look too awful indeed, however it's the lone survivor. The one on the other wheel, I succeeded to open it, put it back in place gently tight, one year later it snapped. New caliper on

I guess, it depends a lot on how often the car is washed through the winter. Mine was fully neglected until I got it.

I ran into this issue recently also, it can really take the wind out of your sails!
The car I was simply replacing brake fluid on had the VR/SR Brembo calipers too, which have 2 bleeders per caliper. The fun part is the caliper itself is some sort of cast aluminum. On both rear calipers, 1 of the 2 bleeder screws were boogered before I laid a wrench on them. Naturally, the threads in those same bleeder holes on both calipers were gone too. Yeehaw. Not much meat left to chase on the bleeders screws nor in the calipers. I couldn’t even make out what die/tap was appropriate & info online was of little help.

A replacement caliper (reman, painted black) is $250. New, $350-400 PER caliper. I rolled the dice with a clean looking $150 eBay caliper, meanwhile hoping I could salvage one of my two Brembo rears with bad threads. While waiting for the eBay caliper I tried a number of Eskimo tricks & finally succeeded on both calipers.

Over the course of 4 days (and waaay too much brake fluid & cat litter) I finally got them both to take. On one caliper I ended up tapping the casting to 1/8-27 NPT, then installed one of these brake bleeder repair kits. It leaked at first, much to my dismay. Wrapped the brass bushing with Teflon tape (~6 rounds!) & it worked! We shall see how long the Teflon tape survives.

The other rear Brembo caliper I tapped to M10x1.0 and chased the threads on the bleeder to the same, polished the conical end of the bleeder & it’s mate in the bottom of the bleeder hole, wrapped with Teflon tape (for threading traction, not to seal via threads), and in she went. Proceeded to bleed rears (for the umpteenth time) then fronts again, then rears again and finally had pedal feel back.

The ironic part is dealers don’t stock bleeders. I ordered 4 just in case. So yeah, get bleeders ahead of time like Oragex encouraged!

Can also get them from the junkyard, ones that come out easy should be a good bet.
