end link clunk (i think) xc70 2001 Topic is solved

I think my right hand side end link is making a clunk noise. (no fault codes )
When i had the strut out i replaced the upper seat mount bearing and absorber so its not that, but one end seems to get stuck/frozen on first movement. I dont think this is normal?

It sounds like its coming from the wheel, so i tightened the shaft centre bolt.

Ive tried getting a FEBI replacement in Australia but not possible so i settled on Meyle HD. IPD have Meyle HD as better than Volvo?

Any reviews?

Very hard to say from a distance, even when driving it's not easy to locate the noise. Could be as little as upper end link bolt not tight enough - this is what I do www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg8e5vKdgbI Could also be the anti roll bar bushings if miles are above 150K. As for brands, no brand is better than genuine, at best some are same quality. Febi to me is not good even if Made in Germany, Meyle as well, Meyle HD perhaps decent. Even Lemforder it makes me feel their are struggling with the quality of their parts.

Thanks for video, sounds very similar to my clunk except it only happens once or twice a day, very hard and annoying to inspect when it stops clunking. Also i read the link bolts needs to be tightened while tentioned (wheels on ground) ? not with wheels off on stands like i have been doing.


I forgot to mention i have recently fitted energy suspension poly sway bar bushings. they fitted on the bar really snug, maybe too tight, not enough grease??

The old poly mounts fitted by previous owner were very loose.

Clunk was lower control arm bolts not torqued. I had never touched them so wrongly assumed the previous owner did a proper job, the other side was tight.

I blema the previous owner because when i bought this car after driving home 4 hours to find the clunking noise from the wheels was because the wheels lugs were loose (hand tight)
