With the camshaft lock tool. It goes in the slots on the back of the cams. The slots are offset so there is no way to get it wrong. That will align the cams to the head.

I got one like that recently. The vendor sells through multiple channels. The inventory they post on eBay is not exclusively reserved for eBay sales. I imminently filed a claim for a refund and ordered from a second source. On top of that your order has five days of floating the payment. No five stars for that vendor.

Almost as bad as eManualonline. They said they would refund my money if I snail mail the downloaded pdf to London UK. Got Paypal involved Paypal got my money back.

Follow-up question: I see how to align the cams and the crank, but you also mentioned a pre-load on the cams. What is this?

Did you have any luck? I’m currently working on a 2016 XC90 I replaced burnt valves in. I have the cams locked in the rear but the tool for the gears seems to be off per the factory pictures.

Did you have any luck with your 90? I’m reassembling one right now and trying to find info on the cam gears. The pics previously posted make it seem like only the intake gear is unlocked? Do both get unlocked? Did you take any pictures?
