98 XC: VERY bad starting sound after replacing injector seals

98 XC: VERY bad starting sound after replacing injector seals

I removed my injectors to change filters and seals and just now got it back together and tried to start it. at first it started and was idling at about Eleven hundred RPMs before working down but it didn't sound like it was idling at 1100 but maybe 600 or so. so I shut it off and restarted it and the engine knocked and there's banging so I shut it off. now everytime I try to start it there's big banging going on.

Did you drop anything down an injector port by chance? Did one of the pintel rings fall off the injectors?

I would suggest that you go back over what you did. As a wise man once said to me, if the issue wasn't there before you started then it was something you did.

Is the banging a mechanical noise or a back firing type noise?

I didn't drop anything down the ports. I even looked. I found that one of the fuel injectors wasn't working and swapped it for new one. I tried starting again and I think the first start damaged a piston or something because it sounds bad. what happens when one fuel injector doesn't work? does it get the piston messed up?

Did you do ANY other work when you changed injectors/seals? What else did you remove, if anything, to gain access to injectors?

can you make and post a video/audio? Recheck all your connectors. try disconnecting the leads one at a time, and see if you can determine a problem.
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

no other work. if a fuel injector is unable to inject fuel, that means the piston won't be able to be powered to move. can this break crankshaft or piston parts? I'm hoping not. I'm prepping for that scenario by shopping for another volvo.

got an XC90 player on here, eh? welcome! well I think my battery is totally dead. tried jumping it too and didn't work.

The car should still start if an injector is bad and not working. Car will run rough. Try removing the spark plugs and see if any of the cylinders is full if fuel. If one is leaking you may have hydro-locked the engine.

Don’t sweat, you haven’t broken anything serious. Rough running sounds like Hades sometimes.
