Has anyone used XC70 Front Control Arm Rear Bushings on other P2 cars such as the S80?
Dorman provided specs for both the Standard and Heavy Duty bushing.
There is just a hair difference so should it work? Inner Diameter: 14.2 mm vs 14.1 mm.

If my math is correct, the difference is about 0.004 inches. This looks to me like too large to 'just press it in anyway'. I think you would have to ream out the control arm to adjust the press fit. Anyway, that's my gut reaction.

The XC bushing has more rubber but the bolt shaft has the same height. I've removed trailing arm bushings on an older Lexus years ago using the drilling and cutting method. I think this guy did ream out the control arm by sanding as the bushing went in fairly easy.volvolugnut wrote: ↑11 Jul 2020, 18:05

I put XC90 smaller single bolt bushing on my S60 2003 front control arms. It was identical. Not sure about the large one with 2 bolts. In the above video, the bushing was kept overnight inside the freezer (and in a plastic bag prior to installing), but perhaps the most important was to render the metal surface inside the control arm hole really really smooth. May try sanding it to clean it, but I finished with a soft steel wire mesh sponge to get the surface to look like a mirror - this reduces a lot the friction coefficient which is what makes the bushing slide in easier - and I also used high pressure CV joint grease. I really recommend installing only genuine bushings from Volvo, all rubber looks the same but the intrinsic rubber properties will vary widely depending on the material quality - it's what makes a bushing last 3 months before tearing vs an identical looking bushing that lasts 5 years or more

- Great upgrade to the FWD 01+ Volvos
These should be the only bushings that can be purchased for the control arms on the P2 series Volvos. The other FWD version does not hold up well and is a much weaker design. If you want to upgrade your control arm bushings in the FWD vehicles, these are the ones to get! The only other option is Polyurethane bushings but they are $200 for a set of two rear vertical. As for the front horizontal bushings, consider using Powerflex instead of the stock bushing.

I also recommend poly for the front bushing with two bolts. It takes away the play the genuine rubber ones have, is this play that causes the steering to feel disconnected at center. Perhaps Powerflex last long enough, not sure about other brands. If I was to do the arms again, I would go with front poly for this reason, bonus is also easier install than genuine rubber ones.
