So I purchased a Volvo V70 XC 2001 a little while ago and noticed that it had the famous neutral stop function where when I press the brakes in low to medium speed it would go into neutral. I decided to update my tcm software to the newest one available (VOLVO 9438291) hoping this would fix the issue, but it didn't. It seems like the neutral stop function is still present. Do I have to specifiy to my Volvo dealer that I want that feature REMOVED?
Yet another 2001 volvo question

It would appear so.
Did you mention that at write-up time?
Maybe an inexperienced mechanic was thrown onto your car and didn't know to look.
That feature was so bad many were under the impression it was removed summarily from all the early P2's.

That I do not know. Seems like a simple enough question to ask.
The TCM download I got for my '02 11 years ago was part # 30677036.
At that time I didn't know enough to ask what the download covered.

I've talked to a friend of mine who's a Volvo truck mechanic, and he says that for problems like these there's specific "kits" that volvo releases that they have to manually add in.
I just sent a mail to my Volvo dealer explaining everything hoping for the best.

I'm 4 years into owning a 2001 V70 2.4t with the original neutral/stop function. At 181,000 miles, it works perfect.
If I was an aggressive driver, or like most normal "todays" drivers, I can see where rapidly jumping from the brake pedal to hitting the gas pedal would eventually cause more wear and tear on the transmission.
But being a more sedate 65......when the light turns green, I release the brake and casually go for the gas pedal. I still move down the road swiftly, but I don't jab the gas pedal at a traffic light. At least, not very often. I also will say that I don't live in an area where I would be going stop sign to stop sign all day.
Also, looking at my cars build date of 1/01, I'm not reprogramming a 20 year old transmission that works as it was intended too.
I did several transmission "drain and fills" soon after I originally bought the car at 138,000 miles, and do a drain and fill at once a year after that.
For me, the transmission is doing fine, but if you or who ever is going to drive the car is more aggressive, then get the software upgraded.
If you do get the transmission upgraded, please post back here and report on how the upgrade went. Thanks

This is the payback of driving like an adult, and your car is rewarding you for it.ignatz wrote: ↑18 Jul 2020, 04:32 I'm 4 years into owning a 2001 V70 2.4t with the original neutral/stop function. At 181,000 miles, it works perfect.

When I was 18, I had a 1966 Alfa Romeo Guilia Sprint Gt. Back then, a 5 speed transmission and no red line on the tach was like being in the LeMans movie. It also had an Abarth exaust system and just velocity stacks on the two DCOE Webers.
